Fantasy Football Week 9 Recap: 21 Things You Need to Know

Nov 4, 2025 | Weekly Game Recap

Week 9 served up wild scores, surprising role changes, and key injuries that’ll impact fantasy rosters. From rookies peaking to star backs faltering, here are 21 takeaways you need for your lineup decisions.

Overperformers

Sam Darnold (QB – SEA) — Darnold stunned the league, going 21-for-24 for 330 yards and 4 TDs in the blowout of the Commanders. He completed every pass in the first half and regained fantasy relevance.

Caleb Williams (QB – CHI) — The rookie flashed elite dual-threat ability: 280 passing yards, 3 passing TDs, +52 rushing yards, plus a receiving touchdown. He topped fantasy charts for the week.

Christian McCaffrey (RB – SF) — McCaffrey ripped off 108 rushing yards on 28 carries, added 67 receiving yards and two touchdowns—proof he’s back to being fantasy gold.

Rico Dowdle (RB – CAR) — With the Panthers upset win, Dowdle carried 25 times for 130 yards and 2 rushing scores. He’s locked in as a lead back now.

Drake London (WR – ATL) — London hauled in 14 targets, 118 yards and 3 touchdowns. He led his team in targets and burst onto fantasy radars.

Tee Higgins (WR – CIN) — Higgins dominated: 7 catches on 9 targets for 121 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also extended his streak of home receiving TDs.

Brock Bowers (TE – LV) — Bowers reminded us of his ceiling: 12 receptions for 127 yards and 3 touchdowns in a single game. The TE1 tier looks very real for him.

Underperformers

Patrick Mahomes (QB – KC) — In a rare dud, Mahomes finished with just 250 passing yards, 0 TDs and an interception. Completion rate under 50% for the first time this season.

Jahmyr Gibbs (RB – DET) — Gibbs managed just 25 rushing yards and 3 receiving yards on 12 touches. A far cry from his earlier flashes.

Jonathan Taylor (RB – IND) — Taylor stumbled: 14 carries for 45 yards and 12 receiving yards. No touchdown this week after multiple 30+ point games.

DK Metcalf (WR – PIT) — Metcalf was basically invisible: 4 targets, 2 catches for just 6 yards. Not what fantasy managers hoped for.

Brian Thomas Jr. (WR – JAX) — The matchup looked perfect but Thomas produced only 3 catches for 55 yards while fellow receiver Parker Washington drew more looks.

Drop / Fade Candidates

Bryce Young (QB – CAR) — Young managed just 3.98 fantasy points: 102 passing yards, 0 TDs, 1 INT. His four-game 2024 finish is a distant memory.

Chuba Hubbard (RB – CAR) — Carried just five times for 17 yards in the game while Dowdle dominated. His role appears reduced.

Keon Coleman (WR – BUF) — Coleman tumbled: 2 catches for 17 yards and only 2.7 fantasy points. Time to move on in most leagues.

Chigoziem Okonkwo (TE – TEN) — Okonkwo remains unused: 2 targets for 10 yards the past three weeks. No touchdowns and little hope.

Injuries / Role Watch

Jayden Daniels (QB – WAS) — Suffered a nasty non-throwing elbow injury while trying to run in the fourth quarter. His season may be at risk.

C.J. Stroud (QB – HOU) — Stroud exited with a concussion in the first half vs Denver and will need to progress through protocol before playing again.

Tucker Kraft (TE – GB) — The Packers fear Kraft has a torn ACL. He leads his team in yards and touchdowns at TE, so his absence would hurt both his and Green Bay’s value.

Brian Thomas Jr. (WR – JAX) (again) — He also suffered an ankle injury after a 34-yard reception and did not return. Monitor his status before starting next week.

Aaron Jones Sr. (RB – MIN) — Jones suffered a sprained AC joint but the team labeled it “minor.” He expects to play Week 10, but practice reports deserve attention.

Quarterbacks Set to Break Out in 2026

Quarterback is one of the easiest positions to overpay for in fantasy football drafts. Everyone knows the elite names. Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Drake Maye, Joe Burrow, Jayden Daniels, Jalen Hurts, and Caleb Williams are expensive for a reason. But the real draft...

Fantasy Football Draft Strategy From the 1.01

Landing the 1.01 in a fantasy football draft is a gift, but it also comes with one obvious challenge. You get any player you want. Then you wait. In a 12-team league, that long gap between Pick 1 and Pick 24 can change the entire board. Running backs can dry up. Wide...
