Week 5 Fantasy Football QB Streamers: Best Quarterbacks to Start

Oct 7, 2026 | Other

Bye weeks are officially here.

Patrick Mahomes and Bryce Young are both off in Week 5, which means plenty of fantasy managers are going to need help at quarterback.

The good news?

This is actually a pretty decent streaming week.

You do not need to find a quarterback you want to start for the next two months.

You need someone with the right combination of passing volume, matchup, and touchdown opportunity.

That is the entire streaming game.

Here are the quarterbacks I would target heading into Week 5.

1. Jacoby Brissett, QB, Arizona Cardinals

Rostered: Around 10-15%

Jacoby Brissett is my favorite streamer of the week.

The three interceptions against New York were ugly.

I am not particularly worried about them.

Before Week 4, Brissett had done a good job protecting the football, and the more important fantasy signal has been Arizona’s willingness to let him throw.

That should matter again this week.

The Cardinals get Detroit, a defense that has struggled badly against opposing passing games and has allowed quarterbacks to generate both yardage and touchdowns.

Arizona also keeps finding itself in game scripts where it has to throw.

That is exactly what we want from a streamer.

I do not need Brissett to suddenly become an elite real-life quarterback.

I need 35-plus attempts in a matchup capable of turning those attempts into touchdowns.

Why Stream Him

The matchup is strong. The passing volume should be there.

And Arizona has shown no hesitation about leaning on Brissett when trailing.

Verdict

My No. 1 Week 5 quarterback streamer.

If you need a one-week replacement, this is where I would start.

2. Kirk Cousins, QB, Las Vegas Raiders

Rostered: Around 20-40%

Kirk Cousins may be more than just a one-week streamer.

He has quietly turned into one of the more useful fantasy quarterbacks through the first month.

Cousins already has 11 passing touchdowns through four games and has finished as a QB1 in three straight weeks.

The encouraging part is that the production has not only come against bad defenses.

He threw for 365 yards and two touchdowns against Kansas City.

That gives me much more confidence trusting him against New England.

Las Vegas has also struggled to consistently create offense on the ground.

That keeps more of the responsibility on Cousins and the passing game.

For fantasy purposes, that is not a bad thing.

Why Stream Him

Cousins combines current production with a role that should continue generating volume.

He also has a better chance than most players on this list of remaining useful after Week 5.

Verdict

Strong Week 5 play and my favorite multi-week option.

If you are tired of streaming quarterback every Sunday, Cousins is the player I would be most interested in holding.

3. C.J. Stroud, QB, Houston Texans

Rostered: Around 35-45%

Before you get too deep into the quarterback waiver wire, check whether C.J. Stroud is available.

His season has been inconsistent.

That does not mean the upside disappeared.

Stroud has already posted multiple 300-yard games and has looked noticeably better when Nico Collins is healthy.

Now he gets Tennessee.

The Titans have not faced many of the league’s stronger passing offenses so far, and Stroud has a reasonable path to one of his better fantasy performances of the season.

This is not necessarily about chasing QB1 overall upside.

It is about avoiding disaster.

If I am replacing Mahomes or Young for one week, a quarterback with a realistic path to 250-plus yards and multiple touchdowns works just fine.

Why Stream Him

The floor is easier to trust than several of the lower-rostered alternatives.

And having Collins available gives the passing game a much higher ceiling.

Verdict

Safe Week 5 streamer if he is sitting on your waiver wire.

He may not have the ceiling of Brissett’s matchup, but he is easier to trust.

4. Aaron Rodgers, QB, Pittsburgh Steelers

Rostered: Around 5-10%

Aaron Rodgers has suddenly become interesting again.

He has thrown for at least 290 yards in consecutive games and has produced six passing touchdowns over that span.

That is a meaningful shift.

The biggest difference has been Pittsburgh allowing Rodgers to push the ball farther downfield.

That creates more yardage upside.

It also creates more touchdown upside.

Now he gets Indianapolis after extra rest.

That keeps Rodgers firmly in the Week 5 streaming conversation.

The age and lack of rushing production will always cap his fantasy ceiling somewhat.

But if Pittsburgh continues letting him attack vertically, the passing production can make up for it.

Why Stream Him

Rodgers currently has one of the better combinations of recent form and matchup among widely available quarterbacks.

Verdict

Good floor/ceiling combination if Brissett, Cousins, and Stroud are gone.

5. Jameis Winston, QB, New York Giants

Rostered: Around 5%

If you want safety, keep scrolling.

If you want fantasy points?

Jameis Winston is always interesting.

Week 4 was the full experience.

Winston threw for 250 yards and three touchdowns.

He also threw two interceptions.

That is the deal.

New York let him attack downfield, and he showed enough chemistry with Malik Nabers and Isaiah Likely to make this passing game interesting.

Now he gets Washington.

The matchup creates exactly the type of environment where Winston can matter for fantasy.

There will be turnover risk.

There will probably be at least one throw that makes you question why you started him.

There could also be 300 yards and three touchdowns.

Why Stream Him

Winston’s willingness to attack gives him a ceiling that many low-end streamers simply do not have.

You just have to accept the downside that comes with it.

Verdict

My favorite deeper-league ceiling play.

If you are projected to lose and need upside, Winston becomes much more attractive.

Week 5 Fantasy Football QB Streaming Rankings

  1. Jacoby Brissett vs. Detroit
  2. Kirk Cousins at New England
  3. C.J. Stroud at Tennessee
  4. Aaron Rodgers vs. Indianapolis
  5. Jameis Winston at Washington

Best Week 5 QB Streamer by Category

Best Matchup: Jacoby Brissett

Detroit creates the best combination of likely passing volume and touchdown opportunity.

Best Multi-Week Option: Kirk Cousins

The production has been consistent enough that this may not need to be a one-week rental.

Safest Play: C.J. Stroud

If Stroud is available, the combination of talent, Nico Collins, and a reasonable matchup gives him one of the better floors on the wire.

Best Touchdown Upside: Aaron Rodgers

Six touchdowns over his last two games tells us Pittsburgh is giving him enough opportunities near the goal line to matter.

Highest Ceiling, Lowest Floor: Jameis Winston

He could throw three touchdowns.

He could throw three interceptions.

He could do both.

That is why he is fun.

Who Should You Prioritize?

If you are simply replacing a quarterback on bye for one week:

Jacoby Brissett if you want someone who could remain your starter afterward:

Kirk Cousins if you want the quarterback you trust most to avoid ruining your week:

C.J. Stroud if you are chasing touchdowns:

Aaron Rodgers if you are a heavy underdog and want volatility:

Jameis Winston

Your roster situation should determine the choice.

There is no reason to chase Winston’s ceiling if you are already projected to win comfortably.

And there is no reason to settle for a low-ceiling option if your opponent is projected 20 points ahead of you.

Streaming is not just about ranking players.

It is about understanding what your lineup needs.

Looking Ahead to Week 6

Kirk Cousins is the quarterback I would be most comfortable holding beyond this week.

Las Vegas gets Buffalo next, and the Bills have already allowed several productive fantasy performances to opposing quarterbacks.

If Cousins continues throwing at this rate, he may graduate from “streamer” to legitimate weekly consideration.

That makes him more valuable than a pure one-week rental.

If you have the roster space, planning ahead can save you from competing for the same quarterback again next Tuesday.

Final Verdict

Jacoby Brissett is my favorite Week 5 streamer.

The Detroit matchup gives him exactly what we want:

Passing volume.

Touchdown opportunity.

A defense worth attacking.

Kirk Cousins is right behind him and may actually be the better pickup if you want someone beyond Week 5.

C.J. Stroud gives you the safest alternative.

Aaron Rodgers has legitimate touchdown upside.

And Jameis Winston gives you the nuclear option if you are willing to embrace the chaos.

The biggest thing to remember with quarterback streaming is simple:

You do not need to find the best quarterback.

You need to find the quarterback playing in the best fantasy environment.

Sometimes the right game matters more than the name.
