RB92 through Week 4 · 1.4 PPG
Preseason Projection vs. Reality
He finished RB62 last season at 3.7 points per game.
Our Take After Week 4
Through 1 game he's RB92 at 1.4 PPR points per game, against 3.7 over 17 games last season (RB62). He's running behind last season's pace.
Last season he ranked 74th of 95 in rushing volume (2.6 carries per game), 39th of 95 in receiving role (2.1 targets per game) and 86th of 95 in efficiency (1.34 yards after contact per carry). Efficiency is the soft spot. Patrick Mahomes is his quarterback.
He's RB3 on the depth chart, so his value depends on the players ahead of him.
The next favorable matchup is the Broncos in Week 8 (6th against RBs).
Read our preseason outlook (June 2026)
Published June 17, 2026. Kept for reference; the take above replaces it.
Smith's rookie line is the story of a depth piece, not a runner to build around. Across 17 games he played just a 16.7% snap share, turning 44 carries into 151 yards at a thin 3.43 per attempt with a -0.131 EPA per play and only 1.34 yards after contact. He never reached a 20-plus rush and broke zero tackles, so the ground game isn't the path. The encouraging signal is on routes: 25 catches on 35 targets for 172 yards, a receiving touchdown, and 1.76 yards per route run hint at a usable third-down skill set.
The 2026 picture got crowded fast. Kansas City brought in Kenneth Walker III to lead, then added Emari Demercado and rookie Emmett Johnson, pushing Smith toward the back of the depth chart. His value is contingent and narrow, essentially a receiving-role flier and a Walker handcuff. Outside an injury ahead of him, treat him as a deep-league name to monitor in camp, not a draftable asset.
