Preseason Projection vs. Reality
He finished TE80 last season at 1.7 points per game.
Our Take After Week 4
Through 2 games he's TE91 at 0.0 PPR points per game, against 1.7 over 10 games last season (TE80). He's running behind last season's pace.
Last season he ranked 77th of 81 in route participation (12.6%), 72nd of 82 in target share (1.8%) and 32nd of 82 in efficiency (1.28 yards per route run). Route participation is the soft spot. Jared Goff is his quarterback.
He's TE4 on the depth chart, so his value depends on the players ahead of him.
The next favorable matchup is the Cardinals in Week 5 (6th against TEs).
Read our preseason outlook (June 2026)
Published June 17, 2026. Kept for reference; the take above replaces it.
Conklins 2025 was a sharp fall from relevance: signed to the Chargers, he played 6 games on a 19.2 percent snap share, ran just 79 routes, and caught 7 of 10 targets for 101 yards with no touchdowns and a -0.368 EPA per play, ranking TE70. That collapse followed two years as a dependable Jets volume target: 51 catches, 449 yards, 4 scores, and 70.9 points (TE27) in 2024, and 61 catches, 621 yards, and an 80-plus percent route share in 2023 (TE13).
Now in Detroit behind Sam LaPorta, the 30-year-old is a clear backup with no path to the target volume that powered his peak (15.5 percent share in 2023 versus 1.8 percent in 2025). His value depends entirely on a LaPorta injury, and even then the Lions pass-game pecking order limits the ceiling. There is no standalone redraft case here. He is a waiver-wire name to file away as an injury contingency, nothing more.
