Our Take After Week 4

Through 3 games he's RB17 at 13.7 PPR points per game, against 13.8 over 10 games last season (RB34). The role is producing the same fantasy output two years running.

Last season he ranked 6th of 95 in rushing volume (17.3 carries per game), 12th of 95 in receiving role (3.5 targets per game) and 67th of 95 in efficiency (1.64 yards after contact per carry). His points come from his rushing volume. Efficiency is the soft spot. Baker Mayfield is his quarterback.

The job is secure: he's the listed starter and one of the best at his position. The main risk is health, and Kenny Gainwell is next on the depth chart if he misses time.

The next favorable matchups are the Packers in Week 4 (2nd against RBs) and the Cowboys in Week 5 (8th against RBs).

Read our preseason outlook (June 2026)

Published June 17, 2026. Kept for reference; the take above replaces it.

Irving's 2025 was a tale of regression: his rushing EPA cratered to minus-0.129 per play after a sterling plus-0.141 as a rookie, and his yards per carry collapsed from 5.42 to 3.4 across just 10 games. The explosive juice vanished too, with breakaway rate halving to 2.31 percent and yards after contact dropping nearly a full yard to 1.64. A shoulder injury that required offseason surgery clearly sapped him, and the one rushing touchdown on 22 red-zone chances reflects a back never quite right.

The rookie tape is the real Bucky, though, and that ceiling keeps him a top-32 fantasy back. The concern is a crowded committee: Sean Tucker has stolen goal-line work, Rachaad White handled third downs, and free-agent addition Kenneth Gainwell threatens receiving snaps. With an early-Round-5 price tag, he's a discounted lead back whose pass-catching floor and bounce-back upside make him worth the gamble if the shoulder holds.

What is Bucky Irving's projected role going forward?

Bucky Irving is the listed starting RB, with Kenny Gainwell next on the depth chart. Nothing on the chart threatens the job, so the role is his to lose on performance.

What is Bucky Irving's fantasy football upside?

Bucky Irving's upside: his ceiling this season is 20.3 PPR points (Week 1, RB12), his rushing volume (17.3 carries per game, 6th of 95 RBs in 2025) gives him a weekly floor to build on and the Packers in Week 4 and the Cowboys in Week 5 are top-10 matchups for RBs.

What could hurt Bucky Irving's fantasy value?
