Published June 17, 2026. Kept for reference; the take above replaces it.
Smith-Njigba's 2025 wasn't a step forward so much as a leap into the elite tier. He commanded a 35.8% target share, the highest in football, turning 163 looks into 119 catches, 1,793 yards and 10 scores while posting a 0.879 WOPR and 3.81 yards per route run. The efficiency backs the volume: a 0.556 EPA per play and 63.2% success rate, both massive jumps from his 2024 marks (0.361, 56.2%). At a 93.3% route rate with a 48.8% air-yards share, he is the offense, not a piece of it.
That earned him the richest receiver extension in league history and locks in his every-down centerpiece role. Adding Rashid Shaheed and losing his coordinator could trim a few targets at the edges, but a 35.8% share leaves enormous cushion. Drafting in the top five overall is the correct price for a true WR1 with three straight years of climbing usage.
