Dallas Cowboys Fantasy Football Outlook & Stats 2026
Written before Week 1Updated September 2026
Dallas led the NFL in passing yards and in plays per game, finished 2nd in total offence and 7th in scoring. Dak Prescott threw for 4,552 yards and thirty touchdowns across a full seventeen games. The one thing holding it back was giveaways — a minus-nine turnover margin, 29th — and that is a team problem rather than a fantasy one.

Core fantasy pieces
Dak Prescott
QBTop-five QB1
Thirty touchdowns and 4,552 yards, at the fastest pace in football.
- 4,552 pass yds
- 30 TD, 10 INT
- 67.3% comp
A 99.5 rating over all seventeen games, on the offence that threw for more yards than any other and ran more plays than any other — the volume and the efficiency arrived together. He offers almost nothing on the ground, so he needs that passing environment to stay top-five, and nothing about the roster suggests it will not. The only real risk is his own availability history, and last season answered it.
George Pickens
WRFirst-round WR1
137 targets, 1,429 yards and nine scores — he out-produced CeeDee Lamb outright.
- 93 rec, 1,429 yds
- 137 targets
- 9 TD
Ninety-three catches at 15.4 a reception is the rare profile combining elite volume with genuine downfield work, and he did it across all seventeen games. The nine touchdowns confirm the red-zone role is his as much as anyone's. He is no longer the second option here and his price should reflect that before the market catches up.
CeeDee Lamb
WRWR1
1,077 yards in fourteen games, and three touchdowns to go with them.
- 75 rec, 1,077 yds
- 117 targets
- 3 TD
Seventy-seven yards a game at 14.4 a catch is WR1 production and 117 targets in fourteen appearances is a rate that beats Pickens's per game. Three touchdowns on an offence that threw thirty-one is the anomaly — nothing in the usage explains it, and it is the cleanest regression case on this roster. Buy him at whatever discount the touchdown total has created.
Javonte Williams
RBRB1
1,201 yards and thirteen total touchdowns on the league's busiest offence.
- 1,201 rush yds
- 11 rush TD
- 35 rec
Two hundred and fifty-two carries at 4.8 with eleven rushing scores is a complete workhorse season, and it came attached to an offence that ran more plays than anyone — more snaps means more carries and more goal-line chances. The receiving work is the soft spot at 3.9 yards a catch, so this is a rushing-and-touchdown profile rather than a PPR one. In this offence that is more than enough.
Jake Ferguson
TETop-four TE
102 targets and eight touchdowns, at 7.3 yards a catch.
- 82 rec, 600 yds
- 102 targets
- 8 TD
Eighty-two receptions is elite tight-end volume and the eight scores mean he has the ceiling the position usually lacks — that combination is worth a real pick. The 7.3 yards a reception is genuinely poor and it is the whole shape of the role: he is the checkdown and the goal-line target on an offence with two 1,000-yard receivers ahead of him. Draft the catches and the touchdowns, not the yardage.
Behind the top five
Ryan Flournoy
WRDeep-league flex
Fifty-six targets and four touchdowns as the third receiver.
- 40 rec, 475 yds
- 56 targets
- 4 TD
Forty catches and four scores is a real contribution and it is what the WR3 slot on the league's highest-volume passing offence produces. Fifty-six targets is not enough to start on merit while Pickens and Lamb are both healthy. He is the first man up if either misses time, and on this offence that is worth a roster spot in deeper formats.
KaVontae Turpin
WRBench dart
15.2 yards a catch on thirty-eight targets, plus manufactured carries.
- 26 rec, 396 yds
- 38 targets
- 2 TD
Twenty-six receptions is a small role executed explosively, and Dallas gave him seventeen carries at 5.2 to get the ball in his hands another way. That gadget usage is the entire fantasy case and it is not a repeatable weekly floor. He belongs on a bench in a deep league as a bet on the offence generating enough volume to reach a fourth option.
Bottom lineThis is the most target-rich offence in football and it supports five genuine fantasy starters, which almost no other roster does. CeeDee Lamb's three touchdowns are the single clearest mispricing on this page; George Pickens is no longer the cheaper of the two receivers and should not be drafted as though he is.
Usage & Opportunity Report
Updated through Week 4 · refreshed every Tuesday
Fantasy production follows opportunity, not the other way around — so this report tracks who's on the field and who the ball is going to, before the box score catches up. The essentials: target share (share of team pass attempts), snap share, and red-zone touches. The premium layer, in each player's expandable profile: first-read share (how often the play is designed for him), air-yards share (30%+ is the alpha-receiver threshold), and expected fantasy points (xFP) vs. fantasy points over expected (FPOE) — xFP is stable, repeatable volume; FPOE is efficiency that regresses. Route share (the % of dropbacks a player runs a route on — the stat that matters most for tight ends), targets per route run (TPRR) and yards per route run (YPRR — the best receiver efficiency stat there is) join the profiles when the league's route data is published. Since 2017, receivers at a 20%+ target share average 15.3 fantasy points per game; the 10–20% group averages 9.8. That cliff is why this table exists.

The Backfield Split
Who owns which situations — the RB stat that actually predicts the box score.
- Javonte Williams 83.8%
- Tyler Goodson 10.0%
- Emari Demercado 6.3%
Share of the backs' carries + targets in each situation. Snap-by-snap splits need the league's participation data, which is published after the season.
- 22.3Williams weighted opps/game — RB15 in the NFL
- 19Williams high-value touches (in-10 carries + targets)
- 8.0Goodson weighted opps/game
- +0.2Williams wOpp/g vs. last season — the same role as last season
Why Williams's floor holds in PPR: He keeps 92% of the backfield's targets as well as the early downs, so his catches don't depend on game script — a 57-catch pace. Trailing by 7+, he still gets 69% of the backs' work — no one takes the hurry-up snaps from him.
The Goodson math if Williams misses time: Goodson is next in line by weighted opportunities. A Williams absence projects Goodson to ~63% of weighted opportunities — about 20.7 a game, an RB2 by volume — worth a bench spot in deeper leagues.

Designed runs only; "Middle" includes runs behind either guard.
The left side is the run game's engine: 9.0 yards per carry behind left tackle and 3.8 off left end — 22% of all designed runs go that way, and all three of Williams's three longest runs came off the left side. Interior volume (36 attempts) does the clock work at 3.4; the left edge does the damage. When the line's left side sits out practice, that's a usage note, not just an injury note.

Coaching Profile & Tendencies
Play-calling tendencies carry over from season to season when the play-caller stays the same — and become unreliable the moment he changes. That's the whole reason this module exists: before you trust any Cowboys projection, you need to know whose fingerprints are on the offense and how stable they are. For the Cowboys the answer is stable: Brian Schottenheimer called this offense last season too — his second year on its call sheet — so last year's tendencies still mean something.
Head coach · Second season as caller here · Primary play-caller
Brian Schottenheimer
Schottenheimer family; run-game/play-action-oriented pro-style offense with West Coast influences
Schottenheimer remains Dallas' offensive play-caller in 2026 after handling the role throughout 2025. Klayton Adams assists with weekly game-plan construction rather than calling plays.

61.4early-down pass %
Passing on the downs that are a choice.
Early-down pass rate climbed from 55.5% to 61.4%. First and second down are where a play-caller shows intent — this is a real lean toward the pass game, not late-down necessity.
+4.6PROE
More aggressive than the situation asks.
Pass rate over expected moved from −1% to +4.6% — adjusted for down, distance and score, this staff is choosing the pass more than a year ago. That intent survives game script better than raw pass rate.
66.1pass %
More dropbacks.
Pass rate rose from 61.9% to 66.1%. More pass attempts means more target volume for the receivers and backs who catch it — the simplest kind of fantasy raise.
Offensive coordinator
Klayton Adams
OL/run-game-heavy background; Colorado co-OC in 2018, but Darrin Chiaverini handled play-calling. Dallas is Adams' first NFL OC job, with Schottenheimer retaining the headset
Has not been a primary NFL play-caller, so there is no competing track record to muddy the read: the tendencies on this page are Schottenheimer's.
Defensive coordinator
Christian Parker
Multiple Fangio-tree defense: 3-4 by nature, with 4-3 spacing, 4-2-5 nickel packages and varied front/coverage structures; Parker is a first-time defensive coordinator
Through Week 4 the defense allows 0.19 EPA per play (32nd in the NFL, bottom-ten). A defense this leaky adds possessions and passing-down snaps for its own offense — game-script fuel for the pass catchers.
Staff continuity
Year 2
Schottenheimer's second season calling the Cowboys offense
A continuing install: same caller, same system, second year. That makes the 2025 column of the table above a legitimate baseline rather than another team's data.

Positional finishes are season-long PPR ranks from nflverse scoring data. A row with a week range covers only the games he called that season, ranked against the league over the same weeks. Schottenheimer's offenses have put up repeated top-ten positional seasons — the system has paid fantasy investors before.

Filled bar = Schottenheimer offenses · thin marker = league average
The lean: wide receivers run 6 points above league average under Schottenheimer (65% vs 59%). Position splits this stable are scheme, and scheme is what carries week to week.
How he manages a backfield
Lead back's share of backfield weighted opportunities, by season called.
No clean trend: the lead back's share of backfield weighted opportunities (carries + 2×targets) has moved around season to season. Treat the current split as the read and revisit it weekly.

A 1-point pass-rate swing between leading and trailing. Ahead, the backfield eats; behind, the targets spike — check the spread before you set a flex. Play counts are shown so you can weigh each bucket's sample.
The fantasy bottom line: second season of the same play-caller makes this one of the more projectable offenses in the league: early-down pass rate above league average (61.4% vs 55%), and pass rate above league average (66.1% vs 60%). The target tree leans WR, and the lead back holds 82% of the backfield's weighted opportunities.
