Indianapolis Colts Fantasy Football Outlook & Stats 2026
Written before Week 1Updated September 2026
Indianapolis scored 27.4 points a game and ran twenty-seven touchdowns into the end zone, more than it threw. Jonathan Taylor took 369 touches for 1,963 yards and twenty scores, which is the largest single share of a good offence anyone had last season. Daniel Jones posted a 100.2 rating in thirteen starts and the receiving corps behind Taylor is four deep and evenly split.

Core fantasy pieces
Jonathan Taylor
RBRB1
1,963 yards and twenty touchdowns on 369 touches — there is no comparable workload.
- 1,585 rush yds
- 18 rush TD
- 46 rec, 378 yds
Three hundred and twenty-three carries at 4.9 a pop, eighteen rushing scores, and 46 receptions on 55 targets across all seventeen games. The touchdown total is the part that will not fully repeat — twenty-seven team rushing scores is a historically high number to sit behind — but the volume and the receiving role mean he does not need it to. He is the only back in football with a top-five workload and a top-five offence attached to it.
Daniel Jones
QBHigh-end QB3 with upside
A 100.2 rating and five rushing touchdowns, on an offence that scores without him.
- 3,101 pass yds
- 19 TD, 8 INT
- 5 rush TD
Sixty-eight percent completion at a 100.2 rating is comfortably the best stretch of his career, and the five rushing touchdowns are worth more to a fantasy line than the 164 rushing yards suggest. The problem is the same one that makes Taylor great: Indianapolis runs it in from the two, so the passing touchdowns are capped. A quarterback worth starting in the weeks the matchup forces Indianapolis to throw, and a bench name in the rest of them.
Alec Pierce
WRBoom-or-bust WR2IRIR · Heel
21.3 yards a reception — the most extreme deep-threat profile in the league.
- 47 rec, 1,003 yds
- 84 targets
- 6 TD
A thousand yards on forty-seven catches is a season built entirely on explosive plays, and it made him the most productive receiver on a top-ten passing offence — 12.2 points a game is WR2 scoring however it arrives. It is also the most volatile way to arrive at it: eighty-four targets at nearly nineteen air yards each means a quiet week has nothing underneath it to fall back on. He is the receiver here whose ceiling is worth a real pick and whose floor you have to be willing to start anyway.
Tyler Warren
TETop-six TE
112 targets in a rookie season, second only to Keenan Allen on the roster.
- 76 rec, 817 yds
- 112 targets
- 4 TD
Seventy-six catches for 817 yards from a first-year tight end is a genuine breakout, and the 112 targets say it was by design rather than by accident of injury. Four touchdowns is low and it is the same red-zone story every Colt has — Taylor takes those. The usage is already top-five at the position and the scoring is the part with room to grow.
The rest of the receiver room
Keenan Allen
WRPPR WR4QQuestionable · Groin
Team-high 122 targets, at 9.6 yards a catch.
- 81 rec, 777 yds
- 122 targets
- 4 TD
Eighty-one receptions across all seventeen games is a genuinely reliable PPR floor and the target share is the largest in the receiving corps. Everything about the yardage says short and intermediate — he is moving the chains while Pierce takes the top off. In a points-per-reception league he is a flex you can start without thinking about it; in standard scoring 777 yards and four scores is a bench profile.
Josh Downs
WRPPR flex
Eighty-eight targets from the slot in a genuinely crowded room.
- 58 rec, 566 yds
- 88 targets
- 4 TD
Fifty-eight catches on 88 targets is efficient slot work and the third-largest receiving role on a top-ten passing offence. The ceiling is arithmetic: Allen, Pierce and Warren took 318 targets between them, so the week where Downs is the difference requires one of them to be out. A useful PPR bench piece and an obvious beneficiary if the room thins.
Bottom lineTake Jonathan Taylor and then be careful, because the passing game behind him is a genuine four-way split of a very good offence. Tyler Warren's usage and Alec Pierce's yardage are the two pieces of it that already justify a real pick; Allen and Downs are the PPR remainder.
Usage & Opportunity Report
Updated through Week 4 · refreshed every Tuesday
Fantasy production follows opportunity, not the other way around — so this report tracks who's on the field and who the ball is going to, before the box score catches up. The essentials: target share (share of team pass attempts), snap share, and red-zone touches. The premium layer, in each player's expandable profile: first-read share (how often the play is designed for him), air-yards share (30%+ is the alpha-receiver threshold), and expected fantasy points (xFP) vs. fantasy points over expected (FPOE) — xFP is stable, repeatable volume; FPOE is efficiency that regresses. Route share (the % of dropbacks a player runs a route on — the stat that matters most for tight ends), targets per route run (TPRR) and yards per route run (YPRR — the best receiver efficiency stat there is) join the profiles when the league's route data is published. Since 2017, receivers at a 20%+ target share average 15.3 fantasy points per game; the 10–20% group averages 9.8. That cliff is why this table exists.
- Pass rate over expected−4.6%24thRuns more than game situations call for — a cap on the pass-catchers' volume and a floor under Taylor

The Backfield Split
Who owns which situations — the RB stat that actually predicts the box score.
- Jonathan Taylor 91.7%
- Seth McGowan 8.3%
Share of the backs' carries + targets in each situation. Snap-by-snap splits need the league's participation data, which is published after the season.
- 29.3Taylor weighted opps/game — RB5 in the NFL
- 17Taylor high-value touches (in-10 carries + targets)
- 2.7McGowan weighted opps/game
- +3.8Taylor wOpp/g vs. last season — role grew, not just efficiency
Why Taylor's floor holds in PPR: He keeps 89% of the backs' third-down work as well as the early downs, so his catches don't depend on game script — a 51-catch pace. Trailing by 7+, he still gets 96% of the backs' work — no one takes the hurry-up snaps from him.
The McGowan math if Taylor misses time: McGowan is next in line by weighted opportunities. A Taylor absence projects McGowan to ~100% of weighted opportunities — about 32.0 a game, a top-12 weekly RB by volume — worth a bench spot in deeper leagues.

The left side is the run game's engine: 5.4 yards per carry behind left tackle — 17% of all designed runs go that way. Interior volume (32 attempts) does the clock work at 3.3; the left edge does the damage. When the line's left side sits out practice, that's a usage note, not just an injury note.

Coaching Profile & Tendencies
Play-calling tendencies carry over from season to season when the play-caller stays the same — and become unreliable the moment he changes. That's the whole reason this module exists: before you trust any Colts projection, you need to know whose fingerprints are on the offense and how stable they are. For the Colts the answer is stable: Shane Steichen called this offense last season too — his fourth year on its call sheet — so last year's tendencies still mean something.

Shane Steichen
Norv Turner / Sirianni lineage
Steichen remains Indianapolis' offensive play-caller in 2026; Colts coverage at the 2026 Combine explicitly describes him as continuing to develop as a head coach and play caller.
- Chargers QB coach, then OC & play-caller2016-20
- Eagles OC — took over play-calling from Sirianni mid-20212021-22
- Colts head coach & primary play-caller2023-26

55.6shotgun
More under center.
Shotgun rate fell from 72.2% to 55.6% — more under-center snaps, which usually travels with a heavier run game and play-action rather than quick game.
804th-down go
Fourth downs get kicked.
The go rate on short 4th downs fell from 95% to 80%. Drives that stall now end in kicks — fewer extra possessions-worth of touchdown equity.
62.6motion
More motion at the snap.
Motion at the snap rose from 53.1% to 62.6% of charted plays. Motion buys free releases and defined reads — it tends to concentrate targets on the players the scheme is built around.
Offensive coordinator · Delegation watch
Jim Bob Cooter
Became Detroit's offensive coordinator/play-caller during the 2015 season and remained the primary caller through 2018; interviewed for Philadelphia's vacant OC job in January 2026 but remained with Indianapolis
A coordinator who has run his own offense before — which makes him the delegation scenario: if Steichen ever hands off play-calling mid-season, the predictive baseline on this page changes with it. Watch the ledger above.
Defensive coordinator
Lou Anarumo
Multiple, disguise-heavy defense with varied coverage structures, a DB-oriented foundation and moderate, matchup-dependent blitz usage (28.6% of dropbacks with the Bengals 2019-24, 18th in the NFL); Anarumo spent six seasons as Cincinnati's DC before joining Indianapolis in 2025
Through Week 4 the defense allows 0.17 EPA per play (31st in the NFL, bottom-ten). A defense this leaky adds possessions and passing-down snaps for its own offense — game-script fuel for the pass catchers.
Staff continuity
Year 4
Steichen's fourth season calling the Colts offense
A continuing install: same caller, same system, fourth year. That makes the 2025 column of the table above a legitimate baseline rather than another team's data.

Target split by position across Steichen's play-calling seasons since 2016, vs. league average.
Filled bar = Steichen offenses · thin marker = league average
No position runs more than a few points from league average under Steichen — the target tree follows the talent here, so depth-chart changes move this split more than scheme does.
How he manages a backfield
Lead back's share of backfield weighted opportunities, by season called.
No clean trend: the lead back's share of backfield weighted opportunities (carries + 2×targets) has moved around season to season. Treat the current split as the read and revisit it weekly.
Play-calling by score state
Pass rate when leading, close, and trailing, 2026 through Week 4.
Ahead, the backfield eats; behind, the targets spike — check the spread before you set a flex. Through Week 4 some of these buckets are thin (play counts shown), so treat the splits as early reads.
The fantasy bottom line: fourth season of the same play-caller makes this one of the more projectable offenses in the league: play-action rate above league average (33.3% vs 24%), and 4th-down go rate above league average (80% vs 75%). The target tree is league-shaped, and the lead back holds 92% of the backfield's weighted opportunities. Every number on this page is computed from nflverse play-by-play and FTN charting — when it changes, the page changes.
