San Francisco 49ers Fantasy Football Outlook & Stats 2026

Written before Week 1Updated September 2026

San Francisco converted 49.8% of its third downs — the best rate in the league by a distance — threw thirty-three touchdowns and finished 7th in total offence, while losing the turnover battle by six. Brock Purdy played nine games and posted elite efficiency in them. Mike Evans and Christian Kirk arrive to replace Jauan Jennings and Kendrick Bourne, and George Kittle is coming back from a January Achilles tear.

Core fantasy pieces

  • Christian McCaffrey

    RBTop-five overall

A hundred red-zone opportunities and 102 catches — every touch this offence has to give.

    • 1,202 rush yds
    • 102 rec, 924 yds
    • 17 total TD

Three hundred and eleven carries and 129 targets across all seventeen games, on an 83.1% snap share, is a workload almost nobody is trusted with any more, and the 23.5% target share is what makes the floor unbreakable in PPR. Twenty goal-line carries and a hundred red-zone chances explain the seventeen scores. The warning is in the per-carry numbers: 3.86 a carry and 1.52 yards after contact, both well down on his peak, at thirty with 450 touches behind him.

  • Brock Purdy

    QBQB1 at a discount

Twenty touchdowns in nine starts, at a 0.229 EPA a play.

    • 2,167 pass yds
    • 20 TD, 10 INT
    • 9 games

A 0.229 EPA a play, a 54% success rate and a 7.2 completion rate over expected is top-of-the-league efficiency, and he produced it on a turf toe that plainly bothered him — the 12.3% bad-throw rate is the tell. He cleared 290 fantasy points twice in the two seasons before it. The receiving corps has been rebuilt around him and Kittle's Achilles clouds the opening month; the price assumes the availability question rather than the ability one.

  • George Kittle

    TETop-five TE, on a timeline

Seven touchdowns on thirteen red-zone targets, and an Achilles to get back from.

    • 57 rec, 628 yds
    • 69 targets
    • 7 TD

An 82.6% catch rate and 2.12 yards a route run across eleven games is the efficiency the position is measured against, and seven scores on thirteen red-zone looks is a conversion rate nobody sustains but few match. The tight end is not the question. A January Achilles tear is, and being reportedly on track for Week 1 defies the usual timeline enough to watch through camp. The discount is real and so is the risk.

A rebuilt receiver room

  • Mike Evans

    WRBench flierQuestionable · Ribs

Eight games, a 48.4% catch rate, and the top outside job in San Francisco.

    • 30 rec, 368 yds
    • 62 targets
    • 3 TD

An 11.5% target share after 19.5% the year before, with the catch rate collapsing and 1.23 yards after the catch, is a thirty-two-year-old's season rather than an unlucky one. He heads the outside depth chart and shares the field with Pearsall, Kirk and Kittle in a run-leaning offence. The name is worth more than the projection, which is exactly why somebody else will draft him.

  • Ricky Pearsall

    WRBreakout-or-bust WR4IR · Knee - PCL

    14.67 yards a catch and a 0.504 EPA a play, on a 9.6% target share.

    • 36 rec, 528 yds
    • 53 targets
    • 9 games

A 62.3% success rate and 1.98 yards a route run across nine games is a clear step up on his rookie year and the sort of per-snap work that usually earns more targets. Zero touchdowns on four red-zone looks is what capped the season. Two years under a 10% target share is the pattern to beat, and the room got more crowded rather than less this offseason.

  • Jake Tonges

    TEContingency TE1IR · Knee

Five touchdowns on thirty-four catches, whenever Kittle was unavailable.

    • 34 rec, 293 yds
    • 46 targets
    • 5 TD

Forty-six targets on 240 routes with a 73.9% catch rate and no drops is a tight end who did the job when handed it, and seven red-zone looks produced five scores. Standalone value is close to nothing behind a healthy Kittle. Given the Achilles, that is a more valuable roster spot this year than in a normal one.

  • De'Zhaun Stribling

    WRRookie stashIR · Ankle

The 33rd pick, into a receiving room that was rebuilt twice this offseason.

    • 2nd-round rookie
    • 55 college rec
    • 811 college yds

Six-foot-two with real draft capital, tied to a quarterback who posts top-of-the-league efficiency when upright — the long-term case is straightforward. The short-term one is not: Evans, Kirk and Pearsall are ahead of him, and McCaffrey and Kittle take the targets that matter. A dynasty buy and a redraft afterthought.

Bottom lineThe best third-down offence in football, with the quarterback who drives it healthy again and a receiving corps nobody can rank with confidence. Christian McCaffrey is the draw and the risk in one player — seventeen touchdowns and 102 catches, on 3.86 yards a carry at thirty.

Usage & Opportunity Report

Updated through Week 4 · refreshed every Tuesday

Fantasy production follows opportunity, not the other way around — so this report tracks who's on the field and who the ball is going to, before the box score catches up. The essentials: target share (share of team pass attempts), snap share, and red-zone touches. The premium layer, in each player's expandable profile: first-read share (how often the play is designed for him), air-yards share (30%+ is the alpha-receiver threshold), and expected fantasy points (xFP) vs. fantasy points over expected (FPOE) — xFP is stable, repeatable volume; FPOE is efficiency that regresses. Route share (the % of dropbacks a player runs a route on — the stat that matters most for tight ends), targets per route run (TPRR) and yards per route run (YPRR — the best receiver efficiency stat there is) join the profiles when the league's route data is published. Since 2017, receivers at a 20%+ target share average 15.3 fantasy points per game; the 10–20% group averages 9.8. That cliff is why this table exists.

  • 23McCaffrey high-value touches (in-10 carries + targets)
  • 9.7Black weighted opps/game
  • −10.5McCaffrey wOpp/g vs. last season — a smaller role than last season

Why McCaffrey's floor holds in PPR: He keeps 80% of the backs' third-down work as well as the early downs, so his catches don't depend on game script — a 74-catch pace. No one on this depth chart takes the hurry-up snaps from him.

The Black math if McCaffrey misses time: Black backs up the early-down and red-zone roles (the valuable ones). A McCaffrey absence projects Black to ~82% of weighted opportunities — about 30.0 a game, a top-12 weekly RB by volume — and why he's a STASH, not a cut.

Run Direction — carries & yards per carry by gap

  • 3.37 attLeft tackle
  • 4.344 attMiddle
  • 5.26 attRight tackle
  • 6.56 attRight end

Designed runs only; "Middle" includes runs behind either guard.

The right side is the run game's engine: 6.5 yards per carry off right end and 5.2 behind right tackle — 17% of all designed runs go that way. Interior volume (44 attempts) does the clock work at 4.3; the right edge does the damage. When the line's right side sits out practice, that's a usage note, not just an injury note.

Buy low

George Kittle

The role is arriving before the box score does. Trade for him this week — not after the two-touchdown game makes it obvious to your league.

Sell high

Deebo Samuel

Season totals still read like a starter, but the share is drifting the wrong way three straight weeks. Name value currently exceeds trajectory.

Usage trends are one of the core inputs behind our player pricing — Redraft Command re-runs every player's value as these shares move, so a riser like Kittle gets repriced before your leaguemates notice.

Coaching Profile & Tendencies

Play-calling tendencies carry over from season to season when the play-caller stays the same — and become unreliable the moment he changes. That's the whole reason this module exists: before you trust any 49ers projection, you need to know whose fingerprints are on the offense and how stable they are. For the 49ers the answer is stable: Kyle Shanahan called this offense last season too — his tenth year on its call sheet — so last year's tendencies still mean something.

Shotgun rate fell from 54.2% to 41.9% — more under-center snaps, which usually travels with a heavier run game and play-action rather than quick game.

  • 80motion

    More motion at the snap.

Motion at the snap rose from 68.4% to 80% of charted plays. Motion buys free releases and defined reads — it tends to concentrate targets on the players the scheme is built around.

Red-zone pass rate rose from 52% to 60%. More of this team's touchdowns will arrive through the air — receiver TD equity up, goal-line back TD equity down.

Offensive coordinator

Klay Kubiak

On the 49ers staff since 2021, OC since 2025; never a primary regular-season caller — viewed as Shanahan's groomed successor

Has not been a primary NFL play-caller, so there is no competing track record to muddy the read: the tendencies on this page are Shanahan's.

Defensive coordinator

Raheem Morris

Morris (hired Feb 2026): hybrid odd/five-man front with aggressive blitzing and disguised coverages — a clear departure from the prior four-down, low-blitz scheme

Through Week 4 the defense allows -0.01 EPA per play (14th in the NFL). A middle-of-the-pack unit so far — game script here is week-to-week, so check the spread before leaning on it.

Staff continuity

Year 10

Shanahan's tenth season calling the 49ers offense

A continuing install: same caller, same system, tenth year. That makes the 2025 column of the table above a legitimate baseline rather than another team's data.

How he manages a backfield

Lead back's share of backfield weighted opportunities, by season called.

No clean trend: the lead back's share of backfield weighted opportunities (carries + 2×targets) has moved around season to season. Treat the current split as the read and revisit it weekly.

Trailing by 7+—% pass · 0 plays

Ahead, the backfield eats; behind, the targets spike — check the spread before you set a flex. Through Week 4 some of these buckets are thin (play counts shown), so treat the splits as early reads.

The fantasy bottom line: tenth season of the same play-caller makes this one of the more projectable offenses in the league: motion at snap above league average (80% vs 58%), and shotgun rate below league average (41.9% vs 59%). The target tree leans WR, and the lead back holds 63% of the backfield's weighted opportunities.
