Tampa Bay Buccaneers Fantasy Football Outlook & Stats 2026

Written before Week 1Updated September 2026

Tampa Bay finished 6th in turnover margin and 10th on third down, and scored 22.4 points a game doing it. Mike Evans is in San Francisco, which hands Emeka Egbuka a target share he was already close to taking — 127 looks as a rookie. Baker Mayfield threw for twenty-six touchdowns in what was, by his own standards, a bad year.

Core fantasy pieces

  • Emeka Egbuka

    WRWR2 with WR1 volume incoming

A 23.5% target share as a rookie, and the man ahead of him has left.

    • 63 rec, 938 yds
    • 127 targets
    • 6 TD

One hundred and twenty-seven targets and a 34.9% air-yards share across all seventeen games is alpha usage arriving a year early, and fourteen red-zone looks say the trust was already there. The 49.6% catch rate and nine drops are the fixable part and the reason the yardage is not higher. With Evans gone there is no longer anybody on this roster who competes for the first read.

  • Baker Mayfield

    QBBack-end QB1Out · Thumb

Twenty-six touchdowns and 382 rushing yards in a season everyone calls a disappointment.

    • 3,693 pass yds
    • 26 TD, 11 INT
    • 382 rush yds

Finishing QB10 on 271.9 points after a QB3 season is a real decline — EPA a play fell from 0.171 to 0.053 and his completion rate over expected went negative — and it still left him a startable fantasy quarterback. The 543 attempts and the rushing yards are the floor. The receiving corps got worse and younger this offseason, which is the argument against paying for a bounce-back.

  • Bucky Irving

    RBBounce-back RB2Questionable · Lower Body

3.4 a carry on a shoulder that needed surgery, after 5.42 as a rookie.

    • 588 rush yds
    • 30 rec, 277 yds
    • 4 total TD

One hundred and seventy-three carries across ten games with rushing EPA at minus-0.129, after a rookie year at plus-0.141, is what a shoulder injury looks like in the numbers — the breakaway rate halved and the yards after contact fell almost a full yard. One rushing touchdown on twenty-two red-zone chances is the other half of the discount. The rookie tape is the real player and this is the cheapest he will ever be.

  • Chris Godwin

    WRWR3 if the body holds

Two injury-shortened seasons in a row, and Mike Evans's targets now unclaimed.

    • 33 rec, 360 yds
    • 51 targets
    • 2 TD

Nine games on a 9.4% target share with 1.49 yards a route run, after 2.48 the year before, is a decline that age makes hard to dismiss, and seven air yards a target says the role had shrunk to the underneath work. What is left is the opening: Evans is gone, nobody behind Egbuka is competing for the second job, and 130 targets for 1,024 yards in 2023 is what this role paid the last time Godwin was healthy enough to hold it. Two seasons of evidence are the reason he is affordable rather than the reason to pass.

Secondary options

  • Kenny Gainwell

    RBPPR flex

Eighty-five targets in Pittsburgh, signed to do the same job here.

    • 537 rush yds
    • 73 rec, 486 yds
    • 8 total TD

Seventy-three catches on eighty-five targets, a 16.3% target share and 344 routes is a defined passing-down role rather than a handcuff's workload, and 4.71 a carry says the rushing work was efficient too. He signed for two years and $14 million to back up a lead back coming off shoulder surgery. In PPR that is a startable flex most weeks and an RB2 the moment Irving sits.

  • Sean Tucker

    RBTouchdown vulture

Eight scores on eighty-six carries, at a 15.8% snap share.

    • 320 rush yds
    • 7 rush TD
    • 11 goal-line carries

Eleven goal-line carries and twenty-four red-zone chances is the whole role and it produced eight touchdowns on 3.72 a carry. That is scripted scoring, not a workload, and 0.97 yards after contact says he did nothing to earn more of it. He is a nuisance to Irving's owners and a lottery ticket to everyone else.

  • Cade Otton

    TEStreaming TE

    Eighty-one targets, one touchdown.

    • 59 rec, 572 yds
    • 81 targets
    • 1 TD

A 93.5% snap share and a route on 89.2% of dropbacks is as locked-in as tight-end usage gets, and fifty-nine catches is a usable PPR floor. One score on six red-zone looks is the ceiling problem and it halved his fantasy output year over year. Evans's vacated red-zone work is the one thing that would change the picture.

Bottom lineMike Evans's departure is the fact that shapes this whole page: 127 targets already went to Emeka Egbuka as a rookie, and there is nobody left to argue for the rest. Bucky Irving at 3.4 a carry on a shoulder that has since been repaired is the best price on any lead back in the league.

Usage & Opportunity Report

Updated through Week 4 · refreshed every Tuesday

Fantasy production follows opportunity, not the other way around — so this report tracks who's on the field and who the ball is going to, before the box score catches up. The essentials: target share (share of team pass attempts), snap share, and red-zone touches. The premium layer, in each player's expandable profile: first-read share (how often the play is designed for him), air-yards share (30%+ is the alpha-receiver threshold), and expected fantasy points (xFP) vs. fantasy points over expected (FPOE) — xFP is stable, repeatable volume; FPOE is efficiency that regresses. Route share (the % of dropbacks a player runs a route on — the stat that matters most for tight ends), targets per route run (TPRR) and yards per route run (YPRR — the best receiver efficiency stat there is) join the profiles when the league's route data is published. Since 2017, receivers at a 20%+ target share average 15.3 fantasy points per game; the 10–20% group averages 9.8. That cliff is why this table exists.

  • Pass rate over expected−0.6%12thThrows about as much as situations call for — the target tree, not the play-calling, decides who eats

  • 16Irving high-value touches (in-10 carries + targets)
  • 10.0Gainwell weighted opps/game
  • −1.0Irving wOpp/g vs. last season — the same role as last season

Why Irving's reception count stays capped: Kenny Gainwell owns 64% of the backs' third-down work and 67% of two-minute work. Irving's 74-catch pace isn't a talent question — the passing-down role belongs to Gainwell. Green flag for his rushing floor, hard ceiling on his PPR upside.

The Gainwell math if Irving misses time: Gainwell backs up the early-down and red-zone roles (the valuable ones). A Irving absence projects Gainwell to ~100% of weighted opportunities — about 33.3 a game, a top-12 weekly RB by volume — and why he's a STASH, not a cut.

Run Direction — carries & yards per carry by gap

  • 7.111 attLeft end
  • 2.86 attLeft tackle
  • 2.929 attMiddle
  • 5.05 attRight tackle
  • 2.04 attRight end

Designed runs only; "Middle" includes runs behind either guard.

The left side is the run game's engine: 7.1 yards per carry off left end — 31% of all designed runs go that way, and all three of Irving's three longest runs came off the left side. Interior volume (29 attempts) does the clock work at 2.9; the left edge does the damage. When the line's left side sits out practice, that's a usage note, not just an injury note.

  • 15%7.8 YPAShort middle · Egbuka
  • 33%5.9 YPAShort right

The short middle is the efficiency engine (7.8 YPA) — and it's Egbuka's territory. Mayfield keeps 84% of his throws under 20 air yards, with the deep middle his most explosive zone (22.3 YPA on 4 attempts). Hurst's fantasy problem, mapped: a 19.2-yard aDOT puts him in the 16% deep slice of this chart while the short middle feasts. Gold = highest-YPA high-volume zone.

Coaching Profile & Tendencies

Play-calling tendencies carry over from season to season when the play-caller stays the same — and become unreliable the moment he changes. That's the whole reason this module exists: before you trust any Buccaneers projection, you need to know whose fingerprints are on the offense and how stable they are. For the Buccaneers the answer is: new fingerprints. Zac Robinson is calling this offense for the first time in 2026, though from the same scheme family as his predecessor — so the 2026 sample, not last year's, is the signal.

Offensive coordinator · First season as caller here · Primary play-caller

Zac Robinson

Shanahan / McVay tree (5 seasons on McVay's Rams staff)

No explicit in-season statement found; Robinson spoke of 'bringing play-caller stability to the franchise' at his hiring, Bowles is a defensive HC, and AP frames TB's OCs as the succession of callers — the fifth OC in five years.

  • NFL journeyman QB (NE/SEA/DET/CIN)2010-13

New play-caller, but from the same scheme family as Josh Grizzard (fired after one season) — some carryover is real, but treat 2025 numbers as context, not baseline.

  • 68.9pass %

    More dropbacks.

Pass rate rose from 60.4% to 68.9%. More pass attempts means more target volume for the receivers and backs who catch it — the simplest kind of fantasy raise.

Passing on the downs that are a choice.

Early-down pass rate climbed from 54.2% to 61.8%. First and second down are where a play-caller shows intent — this is a real lean toward the pass game, not late-down necessity.

Offensive coordinator · Delegation watch

Zac Robinson

Primary play-caller — see the card above

The call sheet runs through the coordinator here: Zac Robinson has the play-calling duties while head coach Todd Bowles runs the game. The profile on this page is his.

Defensive coordinator

—

No DC on the 2026 staff — the defense is Bowles' own, with George Edwards and Larry Foote splitting coordinator-level duties

Through Week 4 the defense allows -0.08 EPA per play (7th in the NFL, a top-ten unit). A defense this stout tilts game script toward leads — more second-half carries, fewer desperation targets.

Staff continuity

First-year installs carry the highest tendency risk in football: terminology, staff and quarterback relationships are all new at once. Weight what this staff is doing now over anything carried forward from 2025.

Filled bar = Robinson offenses · thin marker = league average

Wide receivers59% · NFL 59%
Tight ends20% · NFL 23%
Running backs22% · NFL 18%

The lean: running backs run 4 points above league average under Robinson (22% vs 18%). Position splits this stable are scheme, and scheme is what carries week to week.

How he manages a backfield

Lead back's share of backfield weighted opportunities, by season called.

The trend is a spread: the lead back's share of backfield weighted opportunities (carries + 2×targets) has drifted down. Committee risk is real here — price the backs on efficiency, not assumed volume.

Play-calling by score state

Pass rate when leading, close, and trailing, 2026 through Week 4.

Leading by 7+75% pass · 4 plays
Within 764% pass · 107 plays
Trailing by 7+76% pass · 66 plays

A 1-point pass-rate swing between leading and trailing. Ahead, the backfield eats; behind, the targets spike — check the spread before you set a flex. Through Week 4 some of these buckets are thin (play counts shown), so treat the splits as early reads.

The fantasy bottom line: a new play-caller means 2025 data is context at best — what you can bank on is what Robinson is showing now: red-zone pass rate above league average (81% vs 56%), and motion at snap above league average (67.2% vs 58%). The target tree leans RB, and the lead back holds 70% of the backfield's weighted opportunities. Every number on this page is computed from nflverse play-by-play and FTN charting — when it changes, the page changes.
