Rest-of-Season Outlook and Availability

Outlook

The catch is opportunity. In Tampa he slots behind Bucky Irving on a two-year, $14M deal, with Sean Tucker also in the mix, so standalone value is thin while Irving is healthy. But Irving is recovering from shoulder surgery and carries an injury history, which gives Gainwell a clear contingency path to RB2 numbers. Next on the depth chart after him: Sean Tucker. Our Take After Week 4

Through 3 games he's RB63 at 3.4 PPR points per game, against 13.1 over 17 games last season (RB16). He's running behind last season's pace.

Last season he ranked 51st of 95 in rushing volume (6.7 carries per game), 6th of 95 in receiving role (5.0 targets per game) and 35th of 95 in efficiency (2.08 yards after contact per carry). His points come from his receiving role. Rushing volume is the soft spot. Baker Mayfield is his quarterback.

He's RB2 on the depth chart, so his value depends on the players ahead of him.

The next favorable matchups are the Packers in Week 4 (2nd against RBs) and the Cowboys in Week 5 (8th against RBs).

Read our preseason outlook (June 2026)

Published June 17, 2026. Kept for reference; the take above replaces it.

Gainwell's 2025 in Pittsburgh was the proof of concept: 148.3 fantasy points and an RB23 finish built almost entirely on receiving usage. He logged 85 targets, hauled in 73 of them for 486 yards and three scores, ran 344 routes at a 1.41 yards-per-route clip, and commanded a 16.3% target share, all career bests. As a runner he was efficient too, 537 yards at 4.71 per carry with five touchdowns, 14 broken tackles and a 55-yard long. That dual-threat profile is real, and it travels.

Draft him as a PPR-friendly upside dart in the later rounds, not a reach.

Kenny Gainwell Fantasy Outlook FAQ

What is Kenny Gainwell's fantasy outlook for the rest of the 2026 season?

Kenny Gainwell projects as a pass-catching depth RB for deep leagues only for the rest of the 2026 season: waiver-wire material in 12-team PPR, 10-team PPR and half-PPR leagues. His receiving role (5.0 targets per game, 6th of 95 RBs in 2025) supports that. His rushing volume (6.7 carries per game, 51st of 95 RBs in 2025) holds him back. See his live rank in Redraft Command.

What is Kenny Gainwell's rest-of-season fantasy ranking?

Kenny Gainwell is the RB63 in PPR points per game through Week 4. That puts him in depth RB territory, waiver-wire material in 10-team PPR leagues.

What is Kenny Gainwell's projected role going forward?

Kenny Gainwell is RB2 on the depth chart, so a bigger role needs an injury or a change ahead of him.

Will Kenny Gainwell get more touches?

Kenny Gainwell's touches are holding steady: 7.0 a game over his last two games against 6.7 for the season. His share of the offense is what his fantasy value rides on.

What is Kenny Gainwell's fantasy football upside?

Kenny Gainwell's upside: his ceiling this season is 4.5 PPR points (Week 2, RB47), his receiving role (5.0 targets per game, 6th of 95 RBs in 2025) gives him a weekly floor to build on and the Packers in Week 4 and the Cowboys in Week 5 are top-10 matchups for RBs.

What could hurt Kenny Gainwell's fantasy value?

Kenny Gainwell's risks: his rushing volume (6.7 carries per game, 51st of 95 RBs in 2025) limits his scoring. See his injury status and history.

How difficult is Kenny Gainwell's remaining fantasy schedule?

Favorable: of his next seven games, 4 come against a top-10 matchup for RBs and 1 against one of the stingiest defenses, by PPR points allowed to the position.
